Junior Doctors
...for an Southland Hospital, Invercargill New Zealand
Work...Southland Hospital is a modern 181-bed, secondary level base hospital servicing a population of 108,000. Opened late 2004, the hospital is well equipped for its size including state of the art MRI, CT and digital radiology. With a staff of around 1400, Southland Hospital is a teaching hospital, affiliated to the Otago University's Dunedin School of Medicine. With approximately 50 junior medical staff in total, house officers and registrars enjoy broad clinical experience, quality teaching and the opportunity to gain good hands on clinical experience. Our teaching programmes are accredited by the respective Royal Colleges in New Zealand and/or Australasia and teaching time is protected with pagers removed from junior medical staff. There is a professional, yet more informal atmosphere at Southland Hospital, with consultants readily available for mentoring and support. Junior medical staff are very much a part of the consultant's team and are valued and supported as they progress in their career. Play...Once your shift finishes, opportunities for adventure are right on the back door step of the hospital! New Zealand's adventure and tourist capital, Queenstown, is just a 2 hour 15 minute drive from Invercargill (no traffic jams in sight). Here you can bungy jump, paraglide, relax with a glass of pinot noir in surrounding wineries and enjoy world class skiing at Coronet Peak, the Remarkables or nearby Cardrona ski fields (season's ski pass just a fraction of what you'd pay in Europe!) The Southland province is home to two world heritage national parks - Fiordland National Park and Stewart Island - offering stunning scenery for hikers, kayakers and nature lovers. Mountain bikers and cyclists have plenty of tracks to chose from in and around Invercargill including at New Zealand's only indoor cycling velodrome, co-located to the city's main sporting complex. We're Keen...We're keen to talk to UK trained junior doctors who have completed their pre-registration years and are keen to have a year out in New Zealand gaining excellent clinical experience at Southland Hospital whilst also enjoying life and the fantastic outdoors adventures in our region. Of course, if you are a Kiwi thinking of returning back home, or keen to have a chat about opportunities to work with us, then we'd love to hear from you too! Are You?Keen for an adventure you won't regret? Then register your details so we can start talking!
