The Otago Southland region of New Zealand has six rural hospitals located in smaller townships, as detailed below. Each offer superb lifestyle opportunities for health professionals with a rural health interest and for those seeking a rural town lifestyle for their families, whilst still being close enough to Dunedin or Invercargill Cities.
With the exception of Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown (which is owned by Southern District Health Board) the other rural hospitals are community owned generally through a local community trust or company arrangement. Funding for these hospitals comes mostly from the Southern District Health Board, whilst community support and private contracts provide additional revenue.
Our region's rural hospitals have employment opportunities for:
- Rural Hospital Doctors (Medical Officers of Special Scale)
- Experienced Nurses and Midwives
- Allied Health professionals
